Nervous, anxious, excited all these feelings pass through me as I prepare for the inevitable.I know I should warm up but I can’t help but watch what I must face in just a few seconds.Soon I want to throw up and leave and avoid it as much as possible but deep down I know I’ll be ready.
If you ever want to sympathize with me think of the feeling you get before public speaking then triple it,that's how I feel.Later on you will get two chances, one of failure, and one of success. If you succeed you are lucky and the rest should come naturally but if you fail then there is only anger and disappointment. The customary compliments like “nice try” or “you’ll get it next time” mean nothing because you know you screwed up and there is no going back and fixing it.All you can do from there is give it your all the next time around but even that won’t make up for the fault that just previously happened.
Baseball is not an easy sport. There are actually many instances where the talent and practicing do come into play but no matter how good you are the stresses and nerves of performing never go away. I know what it’s like to be a leadoff hitter, the nerves, the stresses, all of it and all I have to say is I wouldn’t have it any other way.
